Introduction:

The Day School was founded in1976 by Father Des Wilson.  It was housed in Springhill House until 1993 when it moved to Conway Education Centre in Conway Mill.   The centre’s informal and welcoming atmosphere is well known.  Here education is promoted as a tool for personal developement and enables people to take control of their life, for increasing personal self-esteem and for enhancing employability.

The Day School was a response to requests from parents to do something for their children who had disengaged from school.  The school worked for many years on a voluntary basis with small charitable contributions from the Community Fund.  In 2002 the Day School received recognition and funding from the Department of Education.

At Conway Day School we take a holistic approach to education.  The curriculum is designed to promote the overall developement of each young person to ensure that each individual is given the oppurtunity to explore all their talents and abilities.

Conway Education Centre and the Day School strive to provide an environment that is safe and secure for children, and where all are treated with dignity and respect.  Students are actively encouraged to express their opinions and they are expected to adhere to a code of behaviour.

The centre has funded places for 10 young people, 14 years to 16 years old (extended to 12 max) attending on a regular basis.

The school hours are 10.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday.

Conway Education Day School is a member of the West Belfast Partnership Board Educational Subcommittee, and participates actively in the Greater Falls Neighbourhood Regeneration Partnership.

Conway Day School works closely with other Alternative Education Providers (AEP’s) in Belfast through the AEP Network.
